(Best of 2023) Aphid infestation on cucumber crops
A sign of insect pressure to come.
Recently I have seen several properties with infestations of Aphids on cucumber plants. Whitefly has been under control in the past few months, this is another reminder that other pests will cause damage if left unabated. As the spring warms up – Thrips along with Whitefly will also add to the insect threat.
Aphids’ area able to cause plant damage including a reduction in harvest. Without being exact I believe the type of Aphid in the photo is a common Cow Pea Aphid. There are several types of Aphids.
To control the aphid you have a few options, go with beneficials, which is my preferred option to prevent spraying, however if you see how fast these aphids reproduce then unless you are very quick with introducing beneficials you may need other options.
