2024 Korean High School & University Agriculture Overseas Training Project
Korean Students have greenhouse visits to Gellert’s and Aka Aka Produce in South Auckland
A few weeks ago, I was delighted to provide Korean agriculture and horticulture students with site visits to two of New Zealand’s high-tech modern greenhouses. Thanks to Steve Gellert of Gellert’s and Ajit Singh of Aka Aka Produce for allowing the visits.
This was a fantastic initiative to bridge knowledge and innovation between Korea and New Zealand. Showcasing New Zealand’s advanced greenhouse technologies to the next generation of agricultural and horticultural professionals is a meaningful contribution to global agricultural collaboration.
Participating Universities
The students on this trip were from the following universities:
- Kyungpook National University
- Jeonbuk National University

- Sunchon National University
- Chungnam National University

- Yonam University
Field of Study
The students have diverse academic backgrounds within the field of agriculture, including majors in horticulture, livestock management, and greenhouse technology.
Purpose of the Trip
The primary objective of this tour is to broaden the students’ global perspective and help them appreciate the vast opportunities in agriculture worldwide. Additionally, as Korea and New Zealand have an FTA, we anticipate more Korean students will pursue agricultural studies in New Zealand. Our secondary goal is to introduce them to New Zealand’s advanced agricultural practices, particularly in primary industries like cultivation, livestock management etc..or High Tech in primary industry. By visiting farms and greenhouses showcasing cutting-edge techniques, we aim to inspire students and expand their insights into innovative agricultural practices.
