Pukekohe Young Grower of the Year Event attracts three participants from the local greenhouse sector.
A great opportunity for young future horticulturists to gain knowledge and make lasting connections.

Thanks to Hamish Frizzell, BNZ Agribusiness Partner for inviting me to attend the Pukekohe Young Grower events dinner last Friday evening at the Pukekohe Indian Hall.  Seven young horticulturists competed in the event.

It was extremely pleasing to see three young horticulturists representing greenhouse horticulture including:

  • Kate Miln, Technical Field Advisor at Gourmet Waiuku Ltd,
  • Rajpreet Singh, Business Development Manager at Dhindsa Farm Ltd
  • Zachariah Stelts, Glasshouse Technician at T&G

All three did extremely well representing greenhouse horticulture from the local region.  This was the first time the three had entered the competition and all did an amazing job during the evening speeches with Rajpreet winning the best speech award.  Even though the overall winner did not come from the greenhouse sector this year hopefully, they will be back next year better for the experience.

This is a great opportunity to learn and network with your peers.  The entire event is superb and for any young horticulturists out there they should seriously consider entering in the future.

Congratulations to the event winner Taylor Leabourn, Agronomist at Leaderbrand.  Good luck for the National Final taking place on the 4th and 5th of October also at Pukekohe. https://www.younggrower.co.nz/projects-3
